Wireless communication integration at Bürener Maschinenfabrik improves reachability and enables one-number concept
Ideas for better cell phone use
Solutions do not always have to be on a large scale. Bürener Maschinenfabrik has implemented an integrated wireless solution for eight company cell phones used by management staff. Users can use their cell phones just like an office phone. At the touch of a button, all calls can be easily redirected to the cell phone. On their cell phones, employees can use all functions of the office phone, such as forwarding calls, initiating conferences or even recording conversations. The Teleserver Mobile Pro application server from Speech Design, installed by Avaya under the name Mobility Server, improves reachability in the company with a one-number concept.
Customer
Bürener Maschinenfabrik (bmf) has just under 470 employees – 260 of them in Germany – and is one of the most important employers in Büren, a small town in Germany's East Westphalia region. For over 50 years, the company has been a successful supplier of conveying technology and cooling lubricant systems for the automotive industry as well as components for the machine tool and plastics processing industries. Likewise, bmf has a strong presence internationally. For example, the company supplied conveyor belts for scrap disposal in a Volkswagen plant in Puebla, Mexico, and filter systems for the new VW engine plant near Shanghai.
Challenge
In December 2006, the company was looking for a new telephone system to replace the old solution. For this purpose, supplier Avaya recommended a wireless solution to bmf that would, among other benefits, improve reachability. The Nokia company cell phones are used by project managers, sales employees and the chief executive.
Solution
The user has implemented a server solution that can be set up with a maximum of 25 cell phone users. The telephony solution, a leased Managed Service with a five-year contract, is completely serviced, installed and maintained by Avaya. Employees can switch the call forwarding on or off at any time by pressing a button on their office or cell phone. The Mobility Manager goes to work immediately, rerouting the connection requests to the cell phone and making important convenience functions of the telephone system available on the cell phone.
Benefit
- Charges are generated at headquarters, making recordkeeping and accounting easier.
- One phone number and one voicemail box (one-number concept): Management staff are reachable via the office number and have a single voicemail box for all calls. This improves reachability and communication with customers, partners and colleagues.
- The company saves on cell phone charges.
- Mobile employees are reachable at all times and can retrieve inquiries using a voice mail system.
