The Hess-Group, with its headquarters in Burbach Nordrheinwestfalia near the hessian border, was founded in 1948 and has developed in the last five decades into a globally operating business within the mechanical engineering segment, as well as in the areas of concrete and concrete pipe-making systems. Hess Maschinenfabrik, Schlosser-Pfeiffer, HMB, Hess Lorraine, Hess Canada, Hess Langfang/Peking, Hess Tula, and, since July 2006, Hess AAC Systems B.V. in the Netherlands are all members of the group. Included in the products are: concrete block machines, surfaces treatment systems, concrete pipe-making machines, concrete mixing systems, and mould manufacturing, as well as systems and services associated with the manufacture of autoclaved aerated concrete and sand-lime brick production The corporation has 240 employees in Burbach and 500 employees worldwide.
The engineers and technicians from Hess Maschinenfabrik operate globally to assemble machinery for the manufacture of concrete. To ensure orders are completed in a timely manner, employees often telephone with their mobile phones. Quickly changing exotic locations without the necessary infrastructure leads to high costs for communication.
Challenge
Up until spring 2007 the mobile telephone costs were around 25.000 Euros per month. Individual employees spent up to 3.000 Euros telephoning with their mobile phones. The employees must pay the charges in advance and they do not receive the money back until expenses are settled. Only members of the senior management have company mobile phones
Solution
The solution now being used was suggested by the communications specialist Avaya, the same company responsible for providing Hess Machinery with their telephone system. Teleserver Mobile Pro is placed in the data center where it is connected to the PBX via an ISDN interface. A maximum of 14 simultaneous calls can be conducted on this system. A total of 71 employees work outside the office and the system is designed for 100 licenses. The integration of the daughter firm Schlosser-Pfeiffer is planned and will increase the number of employees supplied with this mobile communication solution.
Benefits
- Communication charges are generated at headquarters and are, therefore, easier to record and allocate.
- The expensive roaming costs are avoided. All employees are reachable over the office number regardless of their whereabouts. As a result the availability for and communication with the client is greatly improved.
- The recording of calls, individual voice-mailboxes, and the email function are all used by the employees, for example, for recording and forwarding of orders.
- With an amortization period of about a half a year, this solution pays off quickly.
